About 1825

What is 1825?

1825 is a high quality financial planning business providing financial advice, including specialist advice on tax planning, trusts, Wills and Power of Attorney.

We aim to help you achieve your financial goals and have confidence in your future.

Our people are professional, qualified and approachable, but most of all, they are truly passionate about doing the right thing for you.

More information about 1825.

How does the process work?

If you're new to financial planning and advice or just want to learn about our service, you can read about our simple six stage process on our Financial Planning page.

How much does it cost?

We'll always be clear on the cost of our advice before we carry out any work, and our fees are designed to be simple and transparent. If after your initial meeting you choose not to take things forward, you won't be charged. You can find information on our services and what they cost on the Fees and charges, and full information is available in our Terms of Business.

Does 1825 research the whole market when looking for products?

If you already hold existing investments from across the market, we will consider these when advising on your financial plan. In most cases, we'll include them in our recommendations and if you take advantage of one of our ongoing advice services, we may continue to manage these investments for you as part of your overall financial plan.

When advising on new investments or products, we work with a carefully selected range of providers. We can recommend from a suite of options based on your individual needs and use our scale to secure the investments and products on our panel to get the better rates. This means we do not undertake whole of market research in all product areas as we prefer to specialise in the solutions we believe meet the majority of our clients’ needs. Therefore, as defined by the Financial Conduct Authority, our service is defined as Restricted not Independent.

The range of products and services we advise on has been thoroughly vetted and carefully selected to provide suitable options for a variety of circumstances – rest assured we will only recommend a product or investment option if we believe it is suitable for you, and the advice we give you will always be impartial.

More on our range of solutions and products.

What is 'restricted' advice?

The advice we provide is defined as ‘restricted’ by the Financial Conduct Authority as we don’t recommend products from the whole market. For our clients, what this means is that our range of solutions is restricted to a carefully selected panel of products and providers which match the services we offer and from there we work with the client to decide on which solutions are best for them.

If a client’s current products/providers/holdings are still right for them we will not change that. The advice we give will always be appropriate to meet their needs, goals and objectives.

How can I contact 1825?

We've got offices around the country and we're looking to expand our presence and the ways you can interact with us. Have a look at our contact us page to see our locations and contact details.

Do I have to be near an office to be a client?

We have national coverage through our Private Client Management team, so you do not need to visit an 1825 office to benefit from our services. If you wish to speak to our advisers please call 0345 272 6600. Call charges will vary.

What is the relationship between 1825 and Standard Life Aberdeen?

1825 is a brand which is part of the Standard Life Aberdeen group. the name refers back to the year standard life was founded, and acknowledges the experience and expertise our parent company brings.

We're combining the strength and heritage of Standard Life, one of the uk's oldest financial service institutions, with a modern approach to financial advice. we believe that we can offer you a perfect combination of experience, innovation and first class service.

Do you only recommend Standard Life Aberdeen products

No, all our recommendations are based on our clients’ individual needs. we believe our approach gives our clients access to a market leading proposition through Standard Life Aberdeen, and our financial planners the flexibility to tailor solutions to ensure that our recommendations are always focused on our clients’ needs.

When we review your financial plan we look at all the financial arrangements you have, regardless of where they are. we only recommend taking action to change things if it's in your best interests.

Our belief is investment solutions should be diversified by asset type, geography and security and we believe in investing with a blend of the best fund managers available in the market.

If our core offering doesn’t meet your needs, we will look at alternatives. in every case, your planner has the discretion to select more widely if you have a particular requirement which can’t be met through our core or panel propositions. we continue to manage investments from many different providers where these retain value or benefit for our clients.

About financial planning

What is a financial planner?

A financial planner is a qualified expert who will take the time to understand your personal circumstances and goals, and use that knowledge to design a financial strategy that can adapt to changes in your life.

Financial planners have to gain specific qualifications over years of training, and continue to develop their expertise and keep up to date over time.

How can I keep up to date with things that might affect my financial affairs?

Our dedicated blog features articles about various issues that might affect your finances, including coverage of government Budget statements and law changes, to looking into trends and market reviews which might affect your investment performance.

Adviser firm acquisitions

1825 just bought my existing adviser - what does it offer me?

1825 is investing in growing a quality financial planning and advice business in the UK. While we’re owned by Standard Life, giving us the stability and backing of a large company, we are a distinct part of the company with our own management and committees. We believe in local relationships and teams that focus on the needs of our clients, as well as investing in training and developing our people to maintain the high calibre of financial planning expertise we inherit from the businesses we acquire. You’ll still have your relationship with your current planner – who will be supported by a team of financial, tax and investment professionals with a broad range of knowledge and expertise.

I'm considering selling my financial planning business; can I speak with someone at 1825 about this?

If you are a financial adviser and considering the future of your business, you can find out more about 1825 acquisitions on our Join 1825 page.
